European fishing championship

Albufeira hosted the first EFSA European Bream Species Championship earlier this month.

Some 98 participants and 15 vessels from 11 European countries took part.

This event, organised by the Portuguese Federation of Sea Anglers (EFSA) and the Municipality of Albufeira, saw individual honours go to Portuguese fisherman Vítor Ferreira with a total of 20.9 kilogrammes of fish caught.

Portugal A won the team contest with Portugal B second and England B third.

Rob Quinn, who competed as part of the English squad, said: “We had 23 anglers from England. I have been to the Algarve several times and have found it be a great place for pleasure angling.”
