Bowls Portugal announced this week that the European Bowls Union (EBU) have chosen Portugal for their annual Championships, which are to be played on the two rink facility at Vilamoura Bowls Club.
Bowling teams from 16 countries arrive tomorrow (Saturday), ready for a week of competitive bowling to claim the crown as the Champions of Europe.
The games are to be played between Sunday and Friday, November 11, when an awards ceremony will take place.
The national teams comprise four players, two men and two ladies, and the games are between mixed fours, ladies pairs and men’s pairs.
Matches start each day at 9am and play continues until after 5pm.
Tony Gilbert from Bowls Portugal told the Algarve Resident: “The event has been sponsored by Sr. Amadeu Gil da Rocha (a past President of the EBU) and his wife Janeth, owners of the Vilamoura club. This is also a great honour for Bowls Portugal, who are the sole representatives for the EBU in this country.”
Admission to see the games at the Vilamoura Bowls Club is free. Drinks and refreshments will be available throughout the championships.
