The European Commission has banned ‘bottom fishing’ of all kinds in 87 ‘sensitive areas’ of the deep sea in Europe. Says a recent press release, the move, affecting areas of Portugal, will ensure the protection of 57 vulnerable deep sea ecosystems while at the same time minimise disruption to other fishing activities
