It’s no secret that prime minister António Costa has his eyes on a plum job in Brussels once this Socialist government’s mandate comes to an end in 2023. Pundits suggest he’s gunning for the top job (president of the European Commission). Says Expresso: “The European story has shown that it is not dependant on wanting to get there. There is a series of variables that are hard to predict or negotiate. A number of them involving the weight of political families, geographic balances and even gender”.
