Ethiopian athletes Nibret Melak and Almaz Ayana won the men’s and women’s races, respectively in Lisbon’s half marathon yesterday. The 32nd edition of the 21 km race attracted athletes from 14 countries, while over 30,000 people all told registered in the various races. Melak completed the course in 59:06 minutes, while Almaz Ayana reached the finish line in the Belém area, in front of Centro Cultural de Belém, with a time of 1:05.30. The women’s podium was exclusively composed of Ethiopian athletes, with Girmawit Gebrzihair Gebru in second place, with 20 seconds more, and Tiruye Mesfin in third, at 58 seconds.
