Lagos Council is due to start renovating the municipal EM537 road, commonly referred to as “Estrada da Luz”, following approval from the Court of Auditors.
In a press statement, the council described the ‘green light’ as a “decisive step” that allows the local authority to carry out much-needed improvements on a stretch of the road between Quatro Estradas and Vila da Luz, one of the borough’s main tourist hotspots.
Says the council, the roadworks will begin in the second half of June and will improve conditions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. They will last around 300 days and cost the council just over €1.6 million.
Also planned are a number of improvements and additions to the road’s drainage system and the upgrading of its low-voltage electric power distribution network and telecommunications network. New signposting and streetlights will also be installed.
