Estoi rotary club celebrates fourth anniversary

Founded on September 2, 2008 the Rotary Club Estoi International celebrated its fourth anniversary with a Croquet Challenge at the Bela Romão Country Club near Fuseta last Sunday (September 2).

President Claire Larson welcomed the forty members and guests from Estoi and a number of other clubs including Olhão and Tavira.

The tranquil surroundings of Bela Romão and its well appointed croquet lawn was the ideal setting for a keenly contested tournament which was won by Jim Bell, Mary McClay, Pauline Burnham and Mike Kell. The individual winner was Robin Wilson. Lita Gale said, “We were delighted to welcome Rotary members to the Bela Romão Country Club and there were some useful players. We hope to start competitive matches soon so are looking out for new talent.”

Following the tournament, guests enjoyed an excellent meal created by top international chef Sarah Jones.

The next meeting of the Rotary Club Estoi International, which will be for men only, takes place on September 14 at the Aquarelle Restaurant, Almancil which is a Business Lunch and auction in aid of the Portuguese Food Bank against Hunger (Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome) which already assists some 275,000 people who live below the poverty line.
