His sexy on-stage strip in front of a packed nightclub of women drove dozens “into delirium”, but Corporal Pedro Almeida of the GNR in Vila Nova de Gaia has escaped serious reprimand.
The 32-year-old who hit the headlines for using his uniform and handcuffs in the erotic gyrations has been condemned to just 40 days’ suspension from the service – suspended for three years.
If he doesn’t resort to stripping off his uniform again in public, he will have “got off” effectively scot free.
Almeida’s antics won him almost 7,000 friends on Facebook after it was reported that he faced suspension from duties for dancing about in his uniform – and being paid for it.
But GNR bosses have decided that it “was not proved” that Almeida used his gun in the show, and therefore the whole story can be more or less forgotten.
Indeed, president of the association of GNR professionals César Nogueira told Correio da Manhã that it was essentially much better to have been caught stripping off in a bar than being “caught in a case of corruption”.
As it was, CM reveal that Almeida did have to spend some time consigned to ‘desk duties’ – though these were also relaxed after “around a month” and the well-muscled cop was allowed back on the beat near his station in Carvalhos.
CM point out that the March striptease was not in fact Almeida’s first. He had performed an earlier one, dressed as a sailor, in a “well known restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia”.
As one diner remarked at the time, “with all the cuts these men have had to cope with it is no wonder they are resorting to striptease shows”.
Almeida is reported to have received €200 for his controversial strip, which took place in celebration of International Women’s Day.
