A recently formed equestrian association announced its “plan of action” to use horse sports to fight the problem of seasonality in the Algarve.
The Algarve Equestrian Association (AEALG), founded on September 23 last year, held a press conference recently to explain how it intended to take equestrian activities forward in the region.
Supported by the Portuguese Equestrian Federation (FEP), the AEALG says horse sports should be used to combat the problem of seasonality in the region and to prove this has organised a show-jumping event at Vilamoura’s riding centre tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.
Protocols with local riding centres, tourism organisations and health entities, competitions, the creation of a regional equestrian centre, the development of equine therapy (hippotherapy) and workshops are all areas the association will be focusing on.
A spokesman for AEALG said: “80% of equestrian centres in the Algarve are not registered with the FEP and, thus, our association plays an important role ensuring horse sports are developed in the region in a structured, organised format.”
