MUSICAL PERFORMANCES, art exhibitions and sporting and fashion events are just some of this summer’s planned entertainment from the Tourism Board’s Allgarve project.
Music madness
Musical events this summer will cater to a range of different tastes, beginning with the Festival Med on June 26, which will go on for five days in the historic centre of Loulé. This is followed by the International Jazz Festival beginning on July 7 in Loulé, and between July 14 and 16, Carl Orf’s Carmina Burana will be performed at the Teatro das Figuras in Faro.
Nelly Furtado will be performing a concert at the Estádio Municipal in Albufeira on July 27. Allgarve has also organised a series of musical performances, called Allgarve Edition, which include Lila Downs at Quarteira beach on July 24, Brian Ferry at the Vila Sol Resort on July 29, Elvis Costello at The Lake Resort on July 31, and Lloyd Cole at the Royal Golf Course in Vale do Lobo on August 3.

Vaya Con Dios is due to perform at Albufeira Marina on August 5, followed by Vincente Amigo at Albufeira’s old town on August 8. Katia Guerreiro will be in Alte on August 11. The duo Camané and Carlos do Carmo will join the Lisbon Symphony at the Parque Municipal in Loulé on August 18.
Sporting style
A variety of sporting events have also been planned, including the Portugal Masters golf tournament later this year at the Victoria Golf Club, with prize money reaching three million euros, and the Portugal Ladies Open Golf Tournament at Gramacho Golf course, in Lagoa, beginning on July 28 with prize money reaching 200,000 euros.
One of the most famous regattas, the Breitling Med Cup, is to take place in Portugal for the first time, with the Praia da Rocha race taking place between August 29 and September 2. Also in September, some of the world’s greatest powerboat pilots will be taking part in the World Powerboat P1 Championships, in the Algarve.
Exhibitions
An international fashion festival is expected to be held at the Tivoli Marinhotel in Vilamoura between July 6 and 8.
On July 14, contemporary art, photography and architecture exhibitions will be inaugurated at Convento de Santo António in Loulé, and in Faro at Fábrica da Cerveja, Galeria Trem and the Municipal Museum.
