The Dutch team from Deventer, a previous Kayak-Polo World Champion, was one of 12 teams taking part in the fifth Setúbal Cup. The event, which was held over two days, took place at the Municipal swimming pool of Manteigadas. The Câmara Municipal and Setúbal Canoeing Club promoted the international tournament with free entrance. Some of the best teams in the world competed in this all-male tournament, including those representing Italy, Spain, England and Ireland. The English team won for the second time – they previously took the cup in 2000. Setúbal Canoeing Club, among other clubs, represented Portugal.
