English fisherman dies in dam

A 74-year-old Englishman died last Saturday in Ourique while he was fishing with his wife at the Monte Rocha dam.

According to witness reports, the man disappeared at around 5pm last Saturday after diving into the Monte da Rocha waters to release his fishing hook which was stuck between rocks. However, the man did not resurface, leading his wife to call the authorities and report the tragedy.

His body was recovered later that evening and taken to the Beja morgue.

The attempted rescue operation was carried out by the Beja and Setúbal fire departments and included an ambulance from Ourique, divers from Moura, a boat from Almodôvar and two vehicles from the firefighters special force (FEB).
