A 38-year-old English resident in the village of Barão de São João near Lagos, who had been under surveillance for several months by the police, has been caught for major drug dealing.
They discovered that he had been cultivating cannabis plants and also poppy plants to create opium at his property in Vale da Bordeira.
Police raided the premises and found enough cannabis to supply 1,200 individual doses as well as seeds for cannabis plants, 152 grammes of bulbs for poppy plantation to create opium, 7.5 grammes of amphetamines and cocaine in the form of crack.
They also confiscated equipment used to irrigate the cannabis plants and weighing equipment to prepare it for the illegal market.
The detained man, who was not named, is known to have a criminal record for theft.
