CACELA VELHA, in the borough of Vila Real de Santo António, is once again the setting for another Noites da Moura Encantada (Nights of the Enchanted Moor) event, taking place this year from August 3 to 6.
This time, the theme is ‘The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean’, with the event looking to re-create the era when the Muslims, Christians and Jews co-existed peacefully. The town will revive the atmosphere of the period between the 10th and 13th centuries, through folklore shows, street entertainment, oriental dancing, craft exhibitions and various displays of traditional Arabic, Christian and Jewish gastronomy. There will also be tarot reading, henna tattooists, tea sellers and snake charmers, restoring a sense of the 1001 Nights.
