EN125 roadworks completed “before summer”, minister guarantees

Portugal’s Planning and Infrastructure Minister has guaranteed the roadworks that restarted yesterday (January 12) on the EN125 road between Vila do Bispo and Olhão will be completed “before next summer”, more specifically June 30.

The announcement came during a ceremony to relaunch the works at Caliças roundabout in Lagos.

The €10.6 million renovations are taking place on five sections of the road: Lagos/Vila do Bispo (20 kilometres), A22/Faro (8.5kms), Faro/Olhão (4kms), Faro/EN2 (2kms) and Lagos/IC4 (69.2kms).

They also include the conclusion of 23 roundabouts.

Pedro Marques added that the much-needed renovations for the stretch between Olhão and the border town of Vila Real de Santo António are to undergo a tender “this year”, with the plans being to carry them out in 2018.

The minister also said he will return to the Algarve “in a few weeks” to provide more details.
