EN125 claims yet another victim at Guia/Albufeira blackspot

Yet another death has been recorded on the EN125 – the Algarve’s “road of death”. This time it was an elderly pedestrian, crossing at the accident blackspot outside AlgarveShopping, in Guia, after dark on Saturday evening.

The 65-year-old woman was apparently trying to cross the road to pick up a lift, but was hit by a car shortly after she stepped out.

According to Correio da Manhã this morning (Monday), the woman “did not see the car”.

The accident happened at 7.45pm and the victim remained on the road as INEM rescue services desperately tried to save her.

Understood to be a local resident, the woman was declared dead at the scene.

Traffic was cut off for over an hour, on the Faro-Portimão stretch, reports the paper, as the road surface was cleaned.

This was at least the third accident on this particular spot of the infamous road – though perhaps the first fatality involving a pedestrian.
