The President of the Algarve Câmaras Association (AMAL) hopes 2013 will mark a “turning point” for the region and presented the six strategic measures to achieve it.
According to Macário Correia, these are: the restart of redevelopment works on the EN 125; the conclusion of the airport construction works; closing negotiations regarding new European funds for the Algarve; fighting unemployment by stimulating the economy; jump-starting the reforestation process in the areas affected by fires in the summer of 2012; and the creation of welfare services for local civil servants.
Macário Correia, also Faro Mayor, thinks the Algarve must “fight and battle with hope and determination”.
Remembering some of the most important moments of 2012, such as the fires in the Eastern Algarve (July), the Portimão Retail Park blaze (September 28) and the tornado that swept through Lagoa and Silves (November), Macário Correia believes it is time to start the recovery process.
