EMBARRASSMENT SURROUNDED the organisers of last Saturday’s Algarve Rocks as less than 6,000 people turned up for the event. It was hoped that the event, which took place at the Algarve Stadium in Faro, would attract 25,000 people.
The disastrous turn-out is likely to be down to the price of tickets which were between 35 and 40 euros. The line-up of Simple Minds, Sean Paul and Pitty did not inspire the Algarve public to opt for the evening’s entertainment.
Artist Sean Paul joked about the turn-out during his set saying: “They said that we’d be playing to 20,000. I don’t think there’s 200, but….we’ll play all the same.” Brazilian singer Pitty commented after her performance that the “majority of people were still on the beach”. Less that 1,000 people were in the stadium to see her set.
Despite the empty steats, the Simple Minds still gave an energetic performance, ending their set with the celebrated song, Don’t you forget about me.
