Employees at risk

The Algarve’s Hotel Industry Union has accused Grupo Luna Hotels of wanting to dismiss 90 workers by signing an agreement that would leave them without compensation and no access to unemployment benefit.

José Santos, director of Grupo Luna, told Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã: “The employees will be entitled to unemployment benefits. They will be called again in April and won’t lose their rights.

“Hotels cannot work without clients and only three of the 16 units of the group are open. This was the solution we found to cope with a low tourist season without having to opt for a collective dismissal.”
