Police were united in mourning at Quinta do Conde, Sesimbra, yesterday as the three victims of Saturday’s gun rampage (click here) were laid to rest.
As a mark of respect for the two policemen killed in the attack, prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho and Interior minister Anabela Rodrigues both attended the packed funerals, refusing to make any statements to the throngs of national media.
But many of the thousands of PSP and GNR agents talked freely about their anguish at losing “two good men” in a year that has been marked by incidence of violence against security forces (click here)
As mourners commemorated the lives of father and son António José and Diogo Pereira and 25-year-old GNR agent Nuno Anes, the man allegedly responsible for the killings remains interned in Setúbal hospital with gunshot wounds to his face.
