“Emotional day” for José Mourinho as Ferragudo names street after his father

Portuguese manager José Mourinho turned to Instagram to thank Ferragudo for naming a street after his father, a former footballer and manager born in the small fishing village in Lagoa who passed away in 2017.

The 58-year-old Roma manager attended the inauguration of the new street name sign last weekend.

“Portugal is beautiful and Ferragudo is Portugal,” wrote Mourinho. “Emotional day for me. It arrived late but it arrived. Grateful for the deserved tribute to my father.”

José Mourinho is currently in the Algarve for a training camp with his club AS Roma.

His father, who shared the same name as his son and became known as Félix Mourinho to differentiate the two, was a goalkeeper for Vitória de Setúbal and Belenenses, two historic Portuguese clubs.

He also coached these two teams later in his career and led Rio Ave to the final of the Portuguese Cup, losing however to FC Porto at Portugal’s iconic Estádio do Jamor.
