A religious festival that lasted seven days attracted thousands of visitors to Albufeira last week and was described as one of the most memorable events in the city this summer.
The festival, which honours Our Lady of Orada, Albufeira’s Patron Saint, was held between August 9 and 15 and included a varied programme of religious celebrations and entertainment.
Friday, August 14 was marked by a candle procession along the streets of the city followed by the highlight of the programme, a sea procession of dozens of boats with one carrying the statue of Our Lady of Orada. Spectators, religious or not, described this moment as “very emotional”.
Sunday saw a Fado performance by Portuguese singer Camané close the festivities at Albufeira Marina.
Every year, the religious festival in honour of Our Lady of Orada gathers thousands of spectators who do not want to miss the traditional sea procession and fireworks display at Porto de Abrigo da Baleeira, Albufeira.
