Almost 18,000 people have returned to Portugal in the last four years with the support of the government’s Regressar Programme, (which offers tax benefits). This is the claim today by Minister of Labour Ana Mendes Godinho, who says the numbers show there is more work in Portugal, and that young people feel more encouraged to return. Of the 18,000 returners, many are ‘young people’ – able to work remotely for companies, either here, or even based abroad. More than half left Portugal in the ‘Troika years’ (between 2011-2015), said Ms Mendes Godinho.
