FOLLOWING 2000’s successful OFWAT/IRAR dinner debate, the British embassy decided to host the second in Lisbon. Both dinners promoted sharing experiences within the water industry between British and Portuguese companies.
Guest speakers were Eng. Jaime Baptista, president of the Instituto Regulador de Águas e Resíduos (IRAR), Portuguese water and sewerage regulator, Philip Fletcher, director general of the Office of Water Services (OFWAT), and Eng. Pedro Serra, chief executive officer of Águas de Portugal.
Given recent developments in Portugal with the Portuguese water framework law approved by parliament and the new water supply licensing in England and Wales, it was decided that this was the ideal time to discuss issues of common interest.
The British water industry has benefited from these events by identifying relevant business opportunities within the Portuguese water sector.
