Elite young footballers face off in Vila Real de Santo António

Thousands of elite young footballers from around the world are on their way to Vila Real de Santo António to take part in the third ‘Algarve Youth Cup’, which will take place between April 15 and 20 at the municipal sports complex.

Several top teams are taking part, including Benfica, Porto, Atletico Madrid, Seville FC, KRC Genk, Feyenoord, Inter Milan, Dinamo Zagreb, Burnley, Olympique Lyon, Olympiakos and Rangers.

For the first time, the tournament will also feature teams from as far as Estonia, India, USA and Canada.

Says Vila Real de Santo António council, the Algarve Youth Cup is “one of the events in the Algarve with the largest number of participants and with the largest economic impact”.

The opening ceremony will be held on Monday, April 15 at 6.30pm at the VRSA sports complex. Matches also begin on Monday and will be played all the way through Friday between 8.30am and 7.30pm. The finals are scheduled for Saturday between 8am and 8pm.

Admission is free to every match although tickets for the opening ceremony cost €8 and can be purchased at the municipal stadium’s ticket office.
