Crimes of domestic violence have led to 149 suspects being monitored through the use of electronic bracelets in the first half of this year.
The data revealed by the prison services and social reintegration authority (DGRSP) shows that the tendency to apply this measure on abusive partners is rising.
On December 31 2012, the number of offenders monitored electronically was 116, while in 2011 the figure stood at 51 and in 2010 at 31.
According to the Ministry of Justice, more than 5,000 sentences up until December 2012 included the use of this surveillance system since its implementation in 2007.
Additional information relating to other crimes revealed that 430 suspects were kept under house arrest during June of this year, while 91 were doing their time monitored by electronic tagging.
