The three major Portuguese television channels – RTP, SIC and TVI – announced on Monday, September 9, that they will not cover the local elections’ campaign. Despite the broadcasters saying that this was not a concerted action and that they have no means to cover the thousands of campaigns taking place before the September 29 local elections, some reckon that the TV channels are trying to change the current law, which sees them being forced to give the same airtime to all campaigns.
