Election figures

A low voter turnout in all the municipalities of the Algarve characterised the 2011 Presidential elections held on January 23.

The lowest turnout was in Olhão, where only 36.58% of those eligible to vote did so, while the highest percentage was found in Monchique, where 57.63% of people voted.

The overwhelming first choice in the Algarve was for the existing Boliqueime-born President Cavaco Silva, who polled 52.27%, representing 76,896 voters.

Cavaco Silva finished in first place in every municipality, with Fernando Nobre finishing in second in Lagos, Lagoa and Olhão while Manuel Alegre was the runner up in the remaining municipalities.
