Elderly residents removed from carehome had scabies

Elderly residents of an unregistered carehome in Vila Franca de Xira “showed signs of poor health and most were infected with scabies”, the local Public Health Authority has confirmed to Lusa. The home has since been closed; the 40 or so residents transferred to licensed residential centres in other areas – but relatives/ neighbours did query why the evacuation had to take place at one in the morning, suggesting waking old people up for an evacuation because of a skin condition was a bit excessive and will have left many of them deeply confused, even traumatised.
