An 80-year-old man was killed on Tuesday by the high-speed Alfa Pendular Porto-Lisbon train as it travelled at 140kph through a level crossing at Torre de Vilela, near Coimbra.
The accident saw the line closed down for three hours. The dead man is understood to have lived in a nearby village, though no reason has been given for why he was on the line.
