Joey Romero from Arizona has become Josie after being diagnosed as a transgender at six years old.
Her gender has been legally changed and she is now undergoing surgery and taking hormones so that she will grow up as a woman.
Josie’s mother said that she had always shown signs of feminine behaviour and that by four years old she would insist “I really am a girl”.
Josie’s story has been documented on Channel 4’s programme Bodyshock, which has been shown on TV this week.
