EIGHT MALE suspects in an alleged paedophile ring have been detained in Lisbon for questioning by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).
One of the most serious cases is in respect to a 13-year-old girl, who became pregnant and had an illegal abortion.
The sexual abuse of the minor happened in Lisbon a few months ago, and police have announced that in July, they detained a 52-year-old man responsible for terminating the girl’s pregnancy.
Between January and August this year, Lisbon PJ detained 46 individuals suspected of sexually abusing minors.
In the last two months alone, eight men, aged between 30 and 65 years of age, were detained, suspected of offences carried out in Lisbon, Lourinhã, Vila Franca de Xira, Loures, Almeirim, Sintra and Torres Vedras.
The majority of men involved in these cases had a relationship with the minors’ parents, either as a friend of the family or a neighbour.
The majority of the victims were girls between the ages of five and 13, with one being a boy aged seven.
