Train crash deaths
At least 58 people were killed and 150 injured when a train, filled with morning commuters, collided with another, which was stationary on Monday morning. Carriages were derailed and overturned, with one train catching fire. Human error is being blamed for the crash, as it is believed that the moving train ignored a stop signal. Egypt has a poor record of train safety, with several fatal accidents each year. The director of Egypt’s railways, Hanafi Abdel Qawi, was dismissed following the incident.
