Education of the highest calibre

St. Dominic’s International School in São Domingos de Rana, Cascais, is an independent, non-selective, co-educational day school serving students aged three to 18 years in the international community, through the medium of English.

We currently have 49 different nationalities among our student population, making us a truly international school.

Our school mission is to offer an international education of the highest calibre, enriched and enlivened by the Dominican tradition of study and education and promoting the development of each student’s potential: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, moral and spiritual.

St. Dominic’s International School is an IB World School

St. Dominic’s International School is the only school in Portugal authorised to offer all three of the International Baccalaureate Programmes: Primary (PYP), Middle (MYP) and the Diploma.

Our commitment to the IB and its programmes has been at the core of SDIS’ educational philosophy.

The IB PYP is offered to children in Nursery up to Grade 5. The programme’s emphasis is on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

The IB MYP is offered in Grades 6 to 10 in average class sizes of 18. It consists of 8 subject groups which are integrated through 5 areas of interaction. In the final year students also engage in a personal project.

In Grades 11 and 12 students study the IB Diploma Programme. The IB Diploma Programme has gained significant respect and recognition from the world’s leading universities.

Diploma students choose six subjects and have three core requirements to complete: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS).
