AS THE leaders of the world’s richest countries gather in Scotland for the G8 Summit, tens of thousands of people will be descending on Edinburgh on July 2, demanding trade justice, debt cancellation, and more and better aid for the world’s poorest countries. Make Poverty History is organising the rally, which will begin at 11am in The Meadows, where there will be speeches from international figures and celebrity supporters. Campaigners will march around a circular route that will take protesters through the city’s main streets, beginning and ending in The Meadows. By mid afternoon (around 3pm), the march will have encircled the city centre, forming a giant human white band around Edinburgh and creating a message to G8 leaders that “enough is enough”. The festival at The Meadows will continue all afternoon, with campaign and fair trade stalls, activities for children, food and drink, live music, speakers and surprise big name guests.
