Official statistics published today confirm that embattled finance minister Mário Centeno has at least something to smile about despite the problems he is facing on the banking front.
Portugal’s unemployment is down 95,000 since the same time last year while the economy/ GDP grew 2% in the last quarter of 2016 – taking growth for the year to 1.4% which, say reports, trounces forecasts mooted by “various institutions”.
Needless to say, growth is still ‘down’ on the 1.6% registered over 2015.
