Eco rubbish cleaner

Silves Câmara received its first electric vehicle, Mega, on July 30, which cost 15,000 euros and will be used to collect rubbish in Armação de Pêra.

The vehicle, supplied exclusively in Portugal by Grupo Roques, will collect card board and empty small waste bins along the seafront avenue in the town.

Silves mayor Isabel Soares said: “I am focussed on working with businesses and improving the environment as this will benefit the tourist offer in Armação de Pêra.”

Other councils and businesses across the Algarve have also purchased the vehicles, which have been for sale since 2006, including Portimão’s municipal water and residues company (EMARP) and Inframoura, which is responsible for the maintenance of Vilamoura.
