The Africa rally which headed across the Sahara desert after leaving Portimão shortly before the New Year was dominated by Jean Louis Schlesser, Marco Capodacqua and Mikkos Kovacs in the car, motorbike and truck categories respectively.
Portugal’s sole entry, Elisabete Jacinto, in contention for a long way, was finally forced out of the race by mechanical problems following the seventh stage.
