BY 2020, 31 per cent of Portugal’s total energy consumption will come from sustainable and renewable energy sources.
The claim was made by the president of the Portuguese Association of Renewable Energy, Apren, António Sá da Costa. The government will have to set a target of 60 per cent electricity production from renewable sources by 2010, 15 per cent higher than the present 45 per cent laid down. In order to attain that figure, Apren is calling for a total tax exemption on petrol products for bio fuels and tax breaks for companies involved in wind, wave and solar energies.
