Following what Interior minister Constança Urbano de Sousa has termed “a period of stagnation”, EC funds of up to €12 million are now available for civil protection in Portugal. This means fire-fighters and stations can reinforce equipment and embark of much-needed improvements, she said on a visit to commemorate Day of the Fireman in Portimão last week. The country is fully prepared for the ‘fire season’, she added, stressing that depending on the number of bids put in for funding, money coming from Brussels could be increased.
