Eating out

Dear Editor,

I think an increasing number of restaurants in the Algarve are using MSG flavour enhancer.

I used to get a mild reaction from Chinese food where it is common knowledge that MSG is used but these days I have had the same reaction in Italian and traditional Portuguese restaurants where I am sure there is no need for it.

MSG is a very undesirable additive in processed food but there it is written on the packet and you can choose not to buy it.

If it were written on the menu we could choose not to eat it or go somewhere else. I do object to it being added to my food without my knowledge.

Certainly a locally caught freshly barbequed fish with the traditional potatoes and salad need nothing extra except maybe the odd glass of wine.

Love the paper, very useful in daily life here in the Algarve.
