EasyJet to launch ‘low-cost’ air link between Lisbon and Azores

British ‘low-cost’ airline easyJet has announced its plans to launch a new air link connecting Lisbon to Ponta Delgada in the Azores by the end of the year.
It will be the first low-cost air-link connecting the archipelago to mainland Portugal. All other routes are run by Portuguese airlines SATA and TAP.
The news follows an announcement by the Azores’ regional government that it had struck a deal to “liberalise” air-links to the Portuguese mainland.
Speaking to Lusa news agency, easyJet’s commercial director in Portugal José Lopes said he hoped things would now move forwards swiftly.
Meantime, the National Civil Aviation Institute (INAC) has announced that it is still working on a scheme to give Azores residents and students special deals on flights.
