The 22-year-old forward Yuto Nakamura is the latest signing by Portimonense football club. The Japanese player, who grew up in the Urawa Red Diamonds youth academy and scored seven goals in 12 games for Hong Kong side Pegasus most recently, is the first Asian player to represent the Algarveans in their 93-year history.

Portimao continued its great start to the season last Sunday with a table-topping 1-1 draw at Chaves and will now be preparing for the home clash with second place Gil Vicente next weekend.

Meanwhile the foundation stone was laid for the club’s new 8,000-seater stadium which forms part of the Lena Group’s 150 million euro sports and residential project expected to be completed within three years just outside the city limits.
