Pupils of the primary department of the International School of the Algarve in Porches were enthralled recently when nine-year-old Salina Lalwani performed a traditional Indian dance for them. It takes several hours to prepare for such a performance, from the extensive make-up and intricate hairstyle, down to the elaborate silk costume. Salina’s first dance was called Kautvum, in which the dancer offers respect to Lord Ganesha, Lord Natraja, her Guru, the musicians and to the audience. The performance, which was greatly appreciated by the pupils and parents alike, amply demonstrated that Salina is a very talented dancer with a bright future ahead of her.
