Easter fun and games at Pinetrees

Young horse riders were put through their paces on Easter Sunday, April 12, at the Pinetrees Riding Centre in Almancil, which hosted a range of activities from a fancy dress parade to show jumping and individual events and games, with prizes and rosettes to be won.

The day began with children walking and trotting around the arena on leading reins and being judged on their turnout and performance. The joint winners of this event were Catarina Moleiro on the pony, Eclipse, and Hannah McKay on Spike.

More experienced young and adult riders then showed off their skills in the arena. Tilly Dewhirst came first in the young section with Sarah Ransome taking first place in the adult section. This was followed by a fancy dress and Easter bonnet parade.

After lunch came the Handy Horse event – a testing and amusing course of visual obstacles, such as bending poles, cones, boxes of oranges and jumps, to be completed while the clock ticks. Charlotte Stovold completed the course in the fastest time on Spike, followed by Molie Coppin and Oscar Bourke Mullaney.

The event was held as a fund raiser for Riding for the Disabled in the Algarve, a non-profit making charitable organisation which uses gentle horses as a form of life enhancing therapy for those with serious disabilities.
