Easter in the Alto Minho was marked by two bizarre tragedies – both of them involving fireworks and causing serious injuries.
The first took place in Viana do Castelo when a rocket being launched to announce night mass blew up in the handler’s face, and the second came in Monção when the firework that marks the end of Easter festivities exploded too soon, seriously injuring the man setting it off.
