Roll-ups started again at Balaia on Tuesday, April 11 and it was a full turnout to practice in preparation for more visiting teams due shortly. Most of the clubs along the Algarve are hosting visitors over the next few weeks, before the start of the Summer League.
A fun day of bowling took place on Easter Sunday. The day began with the usual spider and Easter cake, with funds to enter the competitions raised in aid of the Albufeira Bombeiros.
The bowling began with a game of four ends bowling first, then having to remember where your bowls are to enable you to put the jack in the right place (never an easy task). The second game was to put the jack up as normal, then placing a one-metre piece of wood, two metres in front of the jack and having to bowl around it. A very good practice task. The third game was to bowl left-handed. All tasks were cunningly devised by Richard King, Chairman.
The teams were rotated every four ends to ensure changing conditions and differing skills in the opposing teams. Games were designed to be fun, yet challenging and skill-based. It was a noisy morning with much hilarity and banter.
A traditional carvery Sunday roast lunch was served in the clubhouse afterwards, during which the results of the competitions were announced.
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, whether new or experienced, and has its roll-up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start.
