Earthquake talk back by popular demand

Historian Peter Kingdon Booker will be giving another talk on the impact of the 1755 earthquake in the Algarve on January 29 at 6pm in the municipal library of Lagoa. Organiser Lynne Booker said: “Peter’s talk in Lagoa on Tuesday (this week) attracted over 50 people and regrettably we had to turn some people away.” The earthquake of 1755 was the biggest such event ever recorded in Europe, and is known as the Lisbon Earthquake. Yet the epicentre was near the Algarve, which suffered immense destruction.
