Earthquake school panic

Dear Editor,

When earthquakes hit the Algarve it seems I’m always driving, or sleeping, or doing something that doesn’t allow me to feel them.

Well, I sure felt last week’s quake! I was at work in Lagoa, and though we only felt it for a few seconds, it was quite a scary experience.

At first it seemed like a large truck had passed by the office. In fact, we hardly had time to figure out what was going on before the quake stopped.

Still, it allowed me to see just how dangerous an earthquake can be. If the one we had here was only 3.7 on the Richter’s scale, I can imagine how terrifying it can be to experience a much stronger one.
