Earthquake of 4.3 magnitude felt in Lisbon

People in Lisbon got a different kind of early morning wake-up call as a 4.3 magnitude tremor shook the ground this morning.

With its epicentre “around four kms east-northeast of Sobral de Monte Agraço”, the quake was felt in Torres Vedras, Cascais and Sintra, as well as Lisbon, says Diário de Notícias.

Surprised residents took to Twitter, while firefighters on the ground said they felt it “a great deal”.

“It was frightening”, Daniela Cardoso at Sobral de Monte Agraço fire station. “All the windows shook and I thought they were going to break”.

The quake last between five and 10 seconds, and can be seen clearly on IPMA’s seismic reading page (click here).

Adds DN, this is the third quake with almost the same epicentre in the last couple of days.

The first two tremors were of lesser magnitude: 2.5 and 2.9, while other tremors, again in the same area have been registered over the last few days.
